Pregnancy, the power of a woman’s body to create new 
and separate life, is profoundly inspiring to me. This mosaic, “Black 
and White,” represents the tension between self and other that develops 
between woman and baby over the course of a pregnancy. The white space, 
powerful and nourishing to the eye, represents the embrace of the 
woman’s body, whose womb, captured in the repeated motif of the cyclical

In my work, the symbol of the circle represents femininity and womanhood. This series of brightly colored circle mosaics represents the empowerment of women to inhabit bright, unapologetic models of femininity. The circles of various sizes, shapes, and textures boldly utilizing the space of the mosaic represent the diversity of woman reclaiming their womanhood and resisting the profound social pressures placed on woman to exist only in closely controlled aesthetic and political modes. The rich and varied plants in this earth-toned motif speak to the colors and patterns of the desert climates that make up much of the middle east. Despite the aridity, these ecosystems are rich with diverse plant and animal life. This is a tribute to the beauty of Israel and its geographic and cultural diversity. The mountains at the bottom are contrasted with the yellow deserts, blue seas, and colorful forests. Despite this beauty, there is a foreboding to this piece; the landscape is interpolated by circles of conflict like a pox on the land. Read More
